DNA Detective by Tanya Lloyd KyiTitle: DNA Detective
Author: Tanya Lloyd Kyi
Major Themes: Genetics, DNA
Synopsis: A description of the study of genetics and the mapping of the human genome, as well as practical uses for this study.

Genetics is a fascinating field of study. There is so much we don’t know about it and so much that we do know is mysterious. The DNA molecule is so incredibly complex!

DNA Detectives describes, in language and pictures easy for children to understand, everything we know about DNA. In this book, we learn about how the human genome was sequenced, and, in a simplified way, how genetic information is passed from parents to children. We also learn about some of the uses for genetic testing, such as to determine if you are susceptible to particular diseases or to solve crimes. In fact, throughout the story, a detective is using DNA testing to determine who robbed a jewelry shop!

DNA Detectives would be a good resource to go along with a study of the human body. It describes quite well how genetics work.

I received a free ecopy of this book from Net Galley in exchange for an honest review.

WARNING: The one thing I did not appreciate about the book was the assumption that evolution is true and the use of “15 million years” as fact.
