I Wonder Why Romans Wore Togas by Fiona MacdonaldTitle: I Wonder Why Romans Wore Togas
Author: Fiona Macdonald
Series: I Wonder Why
Major Themes: Ancient Rome
Synopsis: With questions and answers, and color pictures, young children are introduced to Ancient Rome.

There are several books in the I Wonder Why series; this is the only one I’ve actually read so far. I would say it is a fairly good introduction to ancient Rome, or supplement to accompany a study. Each page has several questions you might ask about Rome, such as, “Who ruled Rome?” “Why did Romans jump in the bath together?” “Who lived in high-rise flats?” “What did the children play with?” The answers, while brief, are quite informative, and are illustrated with color pictures. For being a short book, I Wonder Why Romans Wore Togas has a lot in it. The text is easy enough for second- and third-graders to read.

WARNING: Page 16 shows nude men at the baths. They are all shown from behind, however.
