The Destiny of a Few

Title: The Destiny of a Few
Author: Sarah Holman
Series: Destiny Trilogy
Major Themes: Science Fiction, Christian Fiction
Synopsis: Maria must find the crown prince—but where in the galaxy should she start? With discouragement and defeat pounding in from all sides, can she continue to trust that the Lord is looking out for her?
A few months ago, I read The Destiny of One by Sarah Holman and when this one came up free as well I snatched it up too. After the story picked up pace in book one, I was hooked—but for one reason or another, I didn’t get around to reading The Destiny of a Few until just recently. This story is just as exciting—probably more so!—than the first book. Even though I probably won’t be reading it again anytime soon, it was a fascinating story that I had a hard time putting down.
Now on a quest to discover the crown prince, Maria realizes she must journey to the heart of the galaxy, to a planet called Corateda. However, no one can enter the planet or even get on a space-plane bound there unless they have an invitation from someone who lives there. Not only does this present a problem, but Corateda is also Wyndemere’s capital—the place where Maria will be in more danger than ever before. Will it be worth it to risk her entire mission, her life, and the lives of those helping her, to make an attempt to find the crown prince on the most dangerous and possibly most unlikely places in the galaxy? Can she stand firm despite the obstacles and finish the job she has been given? Can she rely on the Lord’s guidance, even when the path ahead looks hopeless? And what happens when she meets her greatest enemy, Commander Windspear, at a social event she doesn’t want to attend?
Packed with adventure. If I had to describe The Destiny of a Few in three words, that’s what I’d say about it. I enjoyed the story, and my younger brother did too. There were a few things I didn’t appreciate so much—I correctly guessed about half-way through the book what the ending would be, and the story didn’t flow quite as evenly as I thought it might. However, despite those two things, I enjoyed the book, and it was helpful to remember that the author has matured quite a bit in her style since this book was published. Overall, this has a good message about the Christian life in it (sometimes you just have to trust God that He’s got you on the right path), and is an exciting adventure-filled story.
WARNING: There is a fight in chapter ten, with several people getting badly hurt (mentions blood, and maybe seeing a wound, but no more). I believe one person dies, but it’s only briefly mentioned later.
